Chandigarh, December 10

Members of FOSWAC condemned the draft parking policy proposal for imposing more taxes to reduce traffic in the city. They termed the proposal as senseless.

An executive committee meeting of FOSWAC was held at the Community Centre of Modern Housing (Duplex) Complex, Manimajra, under the chairmanship of Baljinder Singh Bittu.

The meeting was attended by federating members of all Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs). Bittu said the only motive of the Municipal Corporation was to burden the residents by imposing taxes.

Bittu highlighted the plight of residents in the vicinity of garbage dumping plant. He said: “The air they breathe in is contaminated with foul smell emanating from the processing of garbage.”

He said the MC had failed in handling the door-to-door garbage collection.

Hitesh Puri, vice-chairman of FOSWAC, denounced the hefty garbage collection rates announced by the MC.

The notification of the MC signed is being circulated by the sweepers, forcing some of the RWAs to implement the new rates.
