Four kidnap boy, land in police net

CHANDIGARH: Four youths, including a juvenile, were arrested yesterday for kidnapping a 14-year-old boy of Class IX and demanding Rs 2 lakh as ransom from his father. They have have been identified as Satish (19), a resident of Zirakpur, Rohit (24) and Raj Kumar (27), both residents of Ram Darbar, and a 17-year-old juvenile.

Four youths, including a juvenile, were arrested yesterday for kidnapping a 14-year-old boy of Class IX and demanding Rs 2 lakh as ransom from his father. They have have been identified as Satish (19), a resident of Zirakpur, Rohit (24) and Raj Kumar (27), both residents of Ram Darbar, and a 17-year-old juvenile. The three were produced before the court today and they were remanded in judicial custody.

A resident of Ram Darbar, Parmod Kumar approached the police on Friday afternoon. He told the police that he had received a call at around 1:30 pm and the caller told him that he had kidnapped his son. The caller asked him to pay Rs 2 lakh as ransom for the release of the boy or else they would kill him, Parmod told the police. The location where he was asked to deliver the money was near the CII building in Sector 31.

The police swung into action and laid a trap at the spot. The four kidnappers were apprehended and the child reunited with the family. The police had registered a case under Section 364, 364-A, 120-B with 363 and 506 of the IPC.

The station house officer of the Sector 31 police station, Inspector Jaswinder Kaur, claimed to have solved the case within three hours. “The four kidnappers wanted to make easy money and had been planning the kidnapping for a week. She said Parmod ran a meat shop at Attawa village. Raj Kumar lived in the same locality and knew that Parmod had enough money to pay them off as ransom,” she added.

 According to the SHO, Rohit works for a contractor while Raj Kumar and Satish are unemployed. The juvenile is a hotel management student in the city. The family of the boy was not available for comment.


One-week planning

The four kidnappers wanted to make easy money and had been planning the kidnapping for a week. Parmod runs a meat shop at Attawa village. Acused Raj Kumar lives in the same locality and knew that Parmod had enough money to pay them off as ransom. — Jaswinder Kaur, SHO of Sector 31 police station
