Fourth swine flu death in city

CHANDIGARH: A 56-year-old man died of swine flu at the GMCH-32 this afternoon.



Chandigarh, July 31

A 56-year-old man died of swine flu at the GMCH-32 this afternoon.

So far, four persons, including one from Himachal Pradesh, have died of the flu.

The deceased, a resident of Sector 26, was a head constable with the UT Police. According to Dr Gaurav Aggarwal, Nodal Officer, UT Health Department, the patient was rushed to the GMSH, Sector 16, last night, where doctors referred him to the GMCH- 32.

Dr Aggarwal said the patient’s condition worsened today. “House-to-house surveys have been intensified so that suspected patients can be rushed to hospital on time,” said Dr Aggarwal.

He said the Health Department had formed a rapid response team to tackle the situation. So far, 13 cases of swine flu have been reported from the city. On July 29, a 35-year-old man from Himachal Pradesh died of the flu. On July 26, 60-year-old woman from Maloya breathed her last. The first victim was Sham Verma, 42, a resident of Sector 35.

So far, two patients and a one with flu-like symptoms are undergoing treatment at the PGI. The doctor said the condition of the four PGI doctors was stated to be stable. — TNS
