In a shocking incident, a Panchkula doctor was duped of Rs 50,000 and jewellery by her groom after the solemnisation of marriage at a resort here yesterday.
The incident came to the fore when accused Ravi Kumar’s car was found missing from the parking area and his room was locked.
Dr Bindu Bansal in her complaint to the police said she came in contact with the accused in January 2019 through a matrimonial website and their marriage was fixed on May 6. She alleged that the accused had told her that his parents had died at a young age and he had one brother and two sisters, who along with some relatives would accompany the ‘baraat’. She said yesterday, the accused came alone and when questioned he told them that his relatives would arrive soon. She said after this, a ring ceremony was held in which a diamond ring and gold ornaments were given to him and later, marriage was also solemnised. The police said they had registered a case against the accused.
