Harvest rainwater

Due to the heavy rains, roads are flooded with water and cause hassle to commuters. Traffic gets blocked and diseases triggered. The state government should make rain water harvesting to prevent the water logging. It should be made mandatory for all those who build a new house. It will play a crucial role in strengthening sustainable development.

‘No lessons learnt

With reference to "73-yr-old Scottish ecologist bitten by a stray dog" (Chandigarh Tribune, July 17), proves that the civic body of the ‘City Beautiful’ has refused to learn any lessons from its dubious past. Similarly, mauling to death of an infant by stray dogs some time ago was also an unfortunate incident. However, the moot question still remains, if MC’s plan for dogs’ vaccination and subsequently leaving it at the same place can help the city residents or not?

Electricity woes

Come rainy season, electrical unscheduled cuts and power failures are very common. Such failures add a lot of burden on citizens. Due to heavy rains, water logging at many places causes traffic jams and accidents at some places. The city which is considered to be the well planned should not have these problems. It reflects on preventive preparedness, planning of different departments.

No one can take law in hands

The recent cases of mob violence, where several people are targeted on the pretext of being child traffickers, has led the judiciary to say that no citizen can take laws into their own hand. The judiciary even asks the parliament to see whether a new law can be implemented into the issue. The minority situation in the country has become really horrendous. It has been noticed that there is a considerable jump in the number of lynching cases. It has instilled a sense of fear and insecurity among minorities. According to the report of Ministry of Home Affairs, there were 296 incidents of communal violence with 44 deaths reported till September 2017. As per newspaper reports, 60 is the highest number of communal incidents that took place in Uttar Pradesh only.
