Chandigarh, July 13

Hundreds of people gathered around the police ambulance at the District Courts to get a glimpse of gangster Dilpreet Dahan. The police came prepared for it as a large number of policemen, including around 10 commandos of the Chandigarh Police, secured the area. Litigants, lawyers as well as court staff and mediapersons stayed put for almost an hour in anticipation of the gangster being taken to the courtroom.

As people took photographs of the scene and made videos on their mobiles, hopes of bystanders were dashed as Dilpreet did not step out of the police vehicle. However, they continued to take videos of every movement of the police vehicles and the accompanying policemen.

Bizarre as it may sound, many people did not even know who was in the ambulance. People enquired from each other about who the person was and even after being told his name, they wanted to know more about “what all the gangster had done”. The police made sure that people were kept at a safe distance from the ambulance.

The court remained abuzz all along with news of the gangster with everyone asking each other about his remand and his crimes. The gangster remained calm and seemed unperturbed by the attention. In visible pain, he struggled to sit up a few times and remained in a lying-down position most of the time. Sporting a green T-shirt, his legs remained covered with a blanket.

Policemen took good care of the gangster in the ambulance — from helping him sit up when he wanted to providing him chilled mineral water inside the air-conditioned ambulance.

The ignition of the ambulance was never turned off. However, the scene that attracted most of the gossip from the people gathered there was when a policeman inside the ambulance took out his phone and took selfies with the gangster. All policemen inside the ambulance posed for the selfies.

Convicts, undertrials raise pro-Dilpreet slogans

As the ambulance carrying Dilpreet was parked towards the rear side of the court complex, it was right next to the police bus that ferries convicts and undertrials from Burail Jail. As the bus left from the court complex around 3.30 pm, the convicts and undertrials raised “Dilpreet Dahan zindabad” slogans.
