Police personnel posted at the Kharar City police station are working from an unsafe building that can collapse any time.

The building has been damaged and whenever it rains, the roofs start leaking.

Even on Monday when the roofs started leaking, the cops had to cover the old record with polythene.

Though there are a number of government buildings in Kharar, the city police station has not got its safe building.

Earlier the Kharar City police post was functioning from the old building of Panipat Woolen Mill. Around 15 years ago, it was shifted to this building.

This building was inaugurated by the then Deputy Commissioner of Ambala in 1910. Earlier, it was the building of the Civil Hospital. When a new building of the Kharar Civil Hospital was constructed, the Judicial Court of Kharar started functioning from here.

After the courts complex was shifted, the building was given to the Kharar City police station. Today the condition of the building was so bad that at many places, cement chips are coming off the roofs.

Although leaders claim that they have carried out development works in Kharar, but one of the important parts of the administration — police — is still working from an unsafe building.

The building houses important police record and at night, many police personnel sleep in the building, risking their lives during rain.

However, senior police officers said they had written to the government for a new building many times, but nothing had been done in this regard.

Kharar DSP Deepkamal said they were looking for land and construction of a new building would begin soon.
