Landlord rapes seven-year-old; absconding

Chandigarh, August 10

A 60-year-old landlord has been booked by the Chandigarh Police for raping his tenant’s 12-year-old daughter at Mauli village. Sources said a call was received by the National Child helpline on Friday and the caller revealed that a minor girl had been sexually exploited.

A team of counselors reached the victim’s house and spoke to her. The victim revealed that she, along with her 10-year-old sister and father, stayed in there. Sources said on August 8, she returned from the school when the landlord entered the house and bolted the door from inside.

The accused then sexually exploited her. In the meantime, victim’s friends arrived at her house and started knocking at the door. The accused escaped from the spot. The police have recorded the victim’s statement and her medical examination was done. — TNS
