Leisure Valley paints a picture of neglect

At a time when the UT Administration has been mulling to prepare a Public Art Policy on the pattern of famous cities, inlcuding Chicago, Sydney, New York and London, its own Leisure Valley, Sector 10, has been crying for attention.

Reason: The Horticulture Wing of the administration has not pruned congress grass for more than a month now.

The Leisure Valley attracts tourists as it is located just opposite Museum and Art Gallery. The wild grass has become an eyesore for passersby and tourists.

Le Corbusier, a Swiss-born French architect conceived the Master Plan of Chandigarh as analogous to human body in terms of head (The Capitol Complex, Sector 1); heart (The City Centre, Sector 17), lungs (The Leisure Valley and innumerable open spaces).

The plight of the Leisure Valley tells that the lungs of city have been unable to breathe due to wild growth.

Gurnam Singh, president, Resident Welfare Association Sector 10, said, “There is so much wild growth. The Leisure Valley hardly attracts the visitors anymore. There is a possibility of snakes hiding in bushes. The administration should do regular pruning of congress grass.”

Prabhat Kiran, SDO, Horticulture Wing, said, “We have scheduled pruning of congress grass for Wednesday. It was pending due to the monsoon.”
