The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) has awarded a compensation of nearly Rs 29 lakh to the family of an accident victim.

Kin of the victim, Surender Singh (43) of Daria village, had sought a compensation of Rs 90 lakh. They stated that Surender was working as a conductor in Haryana Roadways, Delhi Depot, drawing Rs 60,000 per month as salary.

The accident took place on December 12, 2017, when Surender was on duty in a Haryana Roadways bus returning from Jammu to Delhi. Around 2.30 pm, the bus had reached in front of Kahlon petrol pump at Khanna, Punjab, when its fan belt broke down and the driver parked the bus on the roadside and called Delhi office to send a mechanic.

Around 10.30 pm, Surender was crossing the road to get a tool kit from the bus when a car coming from the Ludhiana side hit him, killing him on the spot.

It was mentioned that the accident took place due to rash and negligent driving of the offending vehicle by Anil Kumar.
