Chandigarh, December 13

A local court has sentenced a man to 12 years in jail for attacking his 53-year-old neighbour with an acid last year. The convict, Sudhir Kumar (47), has also been directed to pay Rs 1 lakh as fine.

In his police complaint, Raj Singh, an auditor in the Food and Supply Department, Haryana, had stated that on October 11, 2016, at about 7 pm, he was consuming liquor, along with his friends Jaipal, Mahavir and Ramesh, near a tube well in Sector 52. In the meantime, Sudhir, a resident of Sector 52, came there and sprayed something on his face and body and threatened to kill him.

It is stated that there was an old enmity between them which led to the attack.

The attacker managed to escape while Raj Singh was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, where he underwent treatment.

A case under Sections 326 B (Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid, etc) and 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC was registered at the Sector 36 police station. Sudhir was later arrested from a park in Sector 52.
