Chandigarh: A local court awarded seven-year imprisonment to a man in a road mishap case. He was driving under the influence of alcohol, leading to the death of a man in the accident. Jaipal, a resident of Kangra, HP, was convicted under Section 304 (2) and 338 of the IPC and Section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 53,000 on him. The person who died in the accident was identified as Surinder. The matter dates back to November 2, 2016, when the convict was booked by the police for rashly driving a vehicle. A complaint was given that on the night intervening November 1 and 2, a police party was on patrolling in Sector 40 and 41 near the accident spot. — TNS
