In order to regulate traffic chaos, the Market Committee has decided to introduce a new system at the fruit and vegetable market in Sector 26. An order in this regard was issued by the UT through the administrator of the Market Committee, Nazuk Kumar, today.

Under the plan, no vehicle will be allowed to be parked on roads and a designated place has been identified at the centre for parking. Parking will only be allowed on the auction platform, which was earlier used for the auction of grain. All shopkeepers and their employees have been asked to park their vehicles and two-wheelers on the auction platform.

Any vehicle found parked outside shops on roads will be challaned and towed away.

This will not only facilitate free movement of traffic, but will also help in the sanitation work. Nazuk Kumar said during an inspection, it was found that a large number of cars and two-wheelers were parked in front of shops in a haphazard manner, obstructing the movement of traffic in the mandi.

Mohit Sood, general secretary of the Grain Market Welfare Association, welcomed the decision, saying that it would regulate traffic.

Ram Karan Gupta, president of the association, said they had been raising the issue with the Market Committee for long.

Vehicles coming to the mandi for loading and unloading of items at shops get stuck up due to lack of space.

The plan

  • No vehicle will be allowed to be parked on roads and a designated place has been identified at the centre for parking
  • Parking will only be allowed on the auction platform, which was earlier used for the auction of grain
  • All shopkeepers and their employees have been asked to park their vehicles and two-wheelers on the auction platform
  • Any vehicle found parked outside shops on roads will be challaned and towed away
  • This will not only facilitate free movement of traffic, but will also help in the sanitation work
