Chandigarh, September 19

The Education Department revoked its order of starting evening classes at the GMSSS-19 and GMSSS-23 here today. Rather, 360 Class XI students of the humanities stream have now been adjusted in seven schools.

The department stated that the students, who had applied for admission to Class XI and submitted the registration form on September 11 and 12 at the GMSSS-19 and GMSSS-23, have been allocated seven schools and the lists for the same is displayed on the website of the Education Department.

All principals of senior secondary schools were asked about the availability of extra classroom in their respective schools after which, seven schools were selected. Now, a separate section comprising 60 or lesser students will be formed in these schools. Previously, 582 seats in the humanities stream were increased in the fourth counselling for more than 1,000 students.

An official said: “As an interim arrangement, these students will be taught by Junior Basic Training (JBT) teachers till Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) teachers are appointed in a month. The humanities stream is being started at two schools — GMSSS 22-A and GMSSS-23 — for the first time. The midterm examinations have ended, however, there will be a separate examination for new admission after covering up the syllabus.”

Students are required to report at respective schools allocated to them on September 20 and 21, along with six-month fee and other relevant documents.

Students who didn’t get admission in any of the previous four counsellings (boys with below 45 per cent and girls with below 40 per cent) were invited by the department to fill the registration form in the fifth counselling. To accommodate more students, the department had planned to start evening classes at the GMSSS-19 and GMSSS-23 and had ordered to deploy 10 JBT teachers, five each at both schools for the evening shift.
