Stray animals in district to be registered: DC

PATIALA:Deputy Commissioner Kumar Amit today said stray animals in the district would be registered to put an end to the stray cattle menace.



Patiala, October 18

Deputy Commissioner Kumar Amit today said stray animals in the district would be registered to put an end to the stray cattle menace. He held a meeting with officials of the district administration and representatives of various organisations in this regard.

He also directed block development and panchayat officers (BDPOs) to ensure that villagers do not leave cattle to fend for themselves on roads. He asked the police not to allow vehicles ferrying cattle to enter the city limits.

He also formulated a sub-committee of officials for the management of cattle and for providing better facilities at the cattle pound at Gazipur village. He also directed MC officials to deposit cow cess at the mandated time.

Under the rules, all animals kept within the jurisdiction of the local bodies wing need to be registered before April 1 every year. The MC has adopted the rules, which mandate that animals need to be duly tagged and coded. — TNS
