Mohali, August 17

The domestic and international flight operations from the Chandigarh international airport at Mohali will stop on Sundays from October 3.

The reason: Work on overhauling the runway at the airport will start in the first week of October and the airport will remain closed on Sundays. On the remaining days, the flight timings will be changed. Currently, the flight timings are from 7 am to 10 pm. From October, the new timings will be from 5 am to 4 pm.

Confirming the development, Suneel Dutt, CEO, Chandigarh International Airport Limited, said the flight timings would be rescheduled then.

“There will be no flight on Sundays from October 3. The flight operations will be restricted due to repair work on the runway,” said Dutt.

He indicated that besides being rescheduled, some flights would also be cancelled from October till the completion of the repair work.

According to sources, the authorities are also contemplating constructing a new runway at the airport.

“The process of rescheduling the flights is under way and will be finalised soon,” said Dutt. Currently, the airport witnesses 37 flights daily. It has one international flight to Dubai (to and fro) daily and a flight to Sharjah (to and fro) thrice a week.

Air India has also announced the start of its flight from Chandigarh to Bangkok from October 6.

Under the plan, the runway will not only be overhauled but its length, which is 9,000 ft at present, will also be increased by over 2,000 ft.
