While power cuts have become a routine in almost  all sectors, residents of southern sectors suffered the most as they faced outage ranging from two to six hours during the day. Residents of Sectors 40 and 41 spent sleepless nights during the past two  days. SK Khosla, general secretary of the welfare association of MIG houses,

Sector 40, said residents had been sweating and facing inconvenience in the sultry weather due to power disruption for the past two days. There has been a frequent disruption in the power supply, especially at night.

“Due to the power failure, residents had to spend sleepless nights. Elderly people, chronic patients and infants are the worst sufferers,” Khosla said.

Besides, reports were received regarding damage to electrical appliances such as refrigerators, televisions and fans due to voltage fluctuation.

Residents of Mauli Jagran and Dhanas went without power for  hours. The other areas which suffered outage  included Sectors 7, 26, 45 and 56, and Mani Majra. Residents of Sectors 34, 39, 42, 43, 44, 48 and 49  said they had been facing unscheduled power cuts for over a week.

Khosla alleged that UT Electricity Department had a stand-by power supply arrangement for residents living in posh sectors. In case any snag developed or some maintenance was required in the main line feeding these sectors, the stand-by arrangement was connected immediately. However, the facility was missing in southern sectors. He said even if complaints were registered, it took hours  to rectify the fault.
