Power woes for patients, residents

Unscheduled power cuts for the past two weeks are troubling patients and the staff at the Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala. Amidst other reasons, the ongoing infrastructural development process is the cause of snags.

Patients, especially in the general wards, are facing a tough time due to power cuts.

Amol Singh, a resident of Ranjit Nagar, said, “I visited the hospital in the morning and there was a power failure. There was no light in the doctor’s room. My father’s check-up was done with the help of a torch.” A doctor from the hospital said, “Power cuts in the hospital have become a routine for the past 15 days. It is difficult to perform duty in such circumstances.” 

Medical Superintendent Dr MS Brar, said, “Today, the power cut lasted only for few minutes. It happens due to some snag due to overloading. We are trying to enhance the load of the hospital, which will prevent technical problems due to overheating.”

City also witnesses          power cuts

Patiala is also facing power cut of the duration of six to eight hours daily.

Nabha Gate, Chotti Barandari and Tripuri, the residence of Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Captain Amarinder Singh, New Moti Mahal, also witnessed a power cut on Tuesday. The power supply was resumed by after an hour.

The PSPCL’s attempts to help the power-needy paddy farmers by ensuring eight-hour power supply has in turn resulted in power cuts in the city. “For the past few days, we are receiving electricity for only eight hours a day. The government has inadequate energy management system and we have to tolerate the situation for an indefinite period,” said Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Nabha Gate.
