Mohali, February 12

Inspector Sukhdev Singh, SHO of the Phase 11 police station, was sent to the Police Lines today.

Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh Chahal said the SHO had been sent to the Police Lines following the registration of a case of rape and criminal intimidation against him.

The SSP said, if needed, the next course of action would be initiated against him.

The Chandigarh Police had booked the SHO under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC at the Sector 31 police station following a complaint of a 50-year-old woman, a resident of Phase 10 here.

In her complaint, the victim alleged that she was on her way to Chandigarh from Mohali to visit the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, on Friday, when she started feeling suffocated and stopped her car on the roadside. She alleged that when she stepped out of the car to have fresh air, the accused, Sukhdev Singh, arrived there and raped her in her car and escaped from the spot.
