Rape victim’s newborn dies

CHANDIGARH: The newborn of a 15-year-old rape victim died at the GMCH, Sector 32, on Wednesday night.

Chandigarh, June 14

The newborn of a 15-year-old rape victim died at the GMCH, Sector 32, on Wednesday night. The victim had given birth to the baby in the seventh month of her pregnancy through C-section on Tuesday. Minni Bharadwaj, investigating officer of the case, confirmed the death of the newborn.

She said ever since its birth, the condition of the newborn was critical. On Tuesday, the victim had complained of stomach ache following which she was rushed to the GMCH, where she gave birth to a child.

The rape accused, a 17-year-old boy, was nabbed.

On Wednesday night, family members of the accused created high drama outside the gynaecology ward of the hospital where the victim was admitted. They accused the victim of falsely implicating the boy in a rape case. The victim’s brother is also facing charges of abducting and rape of a girl from Parwanoo. He is currently lodged in a juvenile home.
