Seeing youth’s aspirations from a different perspective

CHANDIGARH: Panjab University’s community radio Jyotirgamaya 91.2 MHz launched its new radio show ‘Full On Nikki’ today.

Panjab University’s community radio Jyotirgamaya 91.2 MHz launched its new radio show ‘Full On Nikki’ today. The show has been created and developed by BBC Media Action in partnership with UNICEF and will include local programming created and developed by Jyotirgamaya 91.2 MHz. The show is a one-of-its-kind youth show with a special focus on gender issues related to adults and adolescents. The inaugural episode of the show was based on the theme ‘The Voice and Silence’, where various concerns regarding the voice and silence were brought to light. The show is also the first international collaboration for the university’s community radio.The show ‘Full On Nikki’ will be broadcast every Monday, Wednesday and Friday on Jyotirgamaya 91.2 MHz at 7.30 pm with the respective re-runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 7.30 pm.

Col GS Chadha (retd), Registrar, said it was a matter of great pride for the university to have an international collaboration with the BBC and UNICEF which not only sensitised youngsters about gender issues, but also played a major role in the development of community radio in India.

Prof Archana R Singh, chairperson, said the programme, specially created by the BBC and UNICEF, focused on the dreams and aspirations of the youth worldwide. She said the 78-episode radio show aimed to sensitise the 10-19 age-group about various issues. The show will be broadcast under the agreement signed between Indian Community Radio Association and UNICEF.
