The Municipal Council on Thursday sought the intervention of the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) to address the issue of accumulation of dirty water in MS Enclave, Dhakoli.

The sewer lines passing through the area are a cause of worry here as it has a tendency of frequently overflowing after getting choked, causing problems to residents as well shopkeepers.

Manvir Singh Gill, Executive Officer (EO), Zirakpur, said the civic body on Thursday wrote to HUDA officials regarding the problem of sewage overflow. He said the treatment plant in Panchkula was creating problems here.

The EO said it was the responsibility of HUDA officials to lay sewer lines, which should be much bigger in diameter, before the monsoon season. He added that the pipes laid in the Dhakoli area were small and could not hold the capacity of the water released by the treatment plant in Panchkula. Gill said he would seek the appointment of the officials concern to discuss the issue.

He added that the master sewerage network of the HUDA did not match the internal sewage system laid in the Dhakoli area, leading to complication of the issue.

The problem of accumulation of sewage has been persisting for the past several years. Every time, showers lead to the overflow of sewage.

Meanwhile, the sewer line was cleaned manually and the civic body managed to drain out the dirty water here on Wednesday night.
