Supplying water to residents is top priority, Badnore tells MC officials

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Governor and the UT Administrator, VP Singh Badnore, today directed Municipal Corporation (MC) officials to supply sufficient water to residents on a top priority.

The Punjab Governor and the UT Administrator, VP Singh Badnore, today directed Municipal Corporation (MC) officials to supply sufficient water to residents on a top priority.

Badnore held a meeting to discuss the water scarcity situation in certain pockets of the city and villages under the UT.

Municipal Commissioner KK Yadav explained in detail the availability of water from the Kajauli Water works as well as from 275 tube wells in the city.

The Municipal Commissioner told the Administrator that there was some issue of water scarcity in 13 villages, particularly Daria and Kishangarh, which were recently transferred to the Municipal Corporation from the Chandigarh Administration.

Similarly, sectors in the city, which were supplied water from the Sector 26 water works, were facing problem due to leakage in the rising main from tube wells, which was repaired yesterday.

The Governor directed civic body officials to supply water to residents on top priority as it was the basic requirement and should be supplemented by doubling the number of water tankers immediately.

He asked officials to display the dedicated helpline number for water supply complaints. The number for lodging water-supply related complaints are 0172-2540200 and 155304.

He directed officials to carry out all the repair works immediately without any delay and also instructed them to maintain coordination between the Municipal Corporation and the engineering wing of the Chandigarh Administration for meeting water supply demand of city residents.

The Governor also reviewed the progress on the work for additional 29 MGD water from the Kajauli water works.

He also asked officials present in the meeting to arrange a meeting of GMADA, Railways and Municipal Corporation at Punjab Raj Bhawan so that residents of the city could get extra water at the earliest to cope with problem of low pressure especially during the summers.
