Tribune flyover: Soil-testing survey starts

The consultant appointed by the Chandigarh Administration for the Tribune flyover project has started a survey.

Sources said different teams of the Mumbai-based Stup Constructions have started soil testing of the area where the flyover was proposed to come up. The test was being conducted to know the strength of the soil.

Besides, the teams have also begun a survey of the traffic volume of the roads leading to Tribune Chowk.

The department of engineering had allotted the work for preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for the flyover project to Stup Constructions. The company has been given three months to submit the report.

Sources said the consultant would conduct a detailed survey of the existing traffic, soil-testing, type of flyover and its length. It will also survey the lines beneath Tribune Chowk and will suggest ways to shift these.

The Administration has prepared a tentative estimate of around Rs 300 crore for the project. The entire cost of the construction will be borne by the Government of India.

Mukesh Anand, Special Secretary, Engineering Department, said the department would provide all help to the consultant to carry out the survey. He added that the consultant would prepare a comprehensive plan for the proposed flyover.
