Tribune staffer robbed of mobile phone, wallet

CHANDIGARH:Two motorcycle-borne youths robbed an engineer of his wallet and phone at knifepoint and later withdrew Rs 26,000 with his ATM cards.

Chandigarh, December 16

Two motorcycle-borne youths robbed an engineer of his wallet and phone at knifepoint and later withdrew Rs 26,000 with his ATM cards. The incident took place on the road separating Sector 46 and 47 at around 2 am last night.

Dinesh Singh Guleria, who works as a computer engineer at The Tribune, was returning home from his office on a cycle. According to him, two men on a bike stopped him. While one of them threatened Guleria with a knife, the other took out his mobile phone and wallet. On seeing an approaching car, they turned around and fled the scene. The man, who was carrying the knife, also took away Guleria’s jacket.

Guleria, who lives in Sector 49, says: “I went straightaway to the police station near my residence but the staff there told me to go to the Sector 31 station”. Inspector Gurjeet Kaur, Station House Officer of the Sector 31 police station, said they had registered an FIR on Guleria’s complaint. “We will write to the bank and get CCTV footage of the ATM from where the money was withdrawn.” —TNS
