Two arrested with liquor

Fatehgarh Sahib: The Mandi Gobindgarh police nabbed two persons with 156 bottles of country-made  liquor from Chandigarh late last night. The accused have been identified as Sunil Kumar, alias Sonu, and Vishal Kumar, both residents of Mandi Gobindarh. The accused were produced in a court on Friday, which sent them to judicial custody. Daljit Singh Rana, Superintendent of Police (Investigation), said a police team led by Constable Budh Singh seized recovered the liquor from the car of Vishal Kumar during a routine checking of vehicles. He said the liquor recovered by the police could only be sold in Chandigarh. TNS

35-year-old man ends life

Kharar: A 35-year-old man, Gupreet Singh, committed Suicide by hanging himself from a tree at Majra village here on Friday. Mullanpur SHO Ravinder Pal Singh said according to the victim’s family, he was suffering from depression. The body was handed over to the family. OC

Gharuan to get MC status

Kharar: The Punjab Government has started the process to convert the Gharuan gram panchayat into a municipal council. This was stated by Charanjeet Singh Channi, Technical Education Minister, Punjab, on Friday. Gharuan falls under the Chamkaur Sahib constituency. He said the process had been initiated for the overall development of Gharuan and surrounding villages. He said there was a proposal to merge Sakrullanpur, Mamupur and Rurki villages into the Municipal Council and the Department of Local Self Government Punjab had been asked to take steps in this direction. Gram panchyats of these villages have been asked to pass resolutions in this regard. OC
