Varnika identifies both accused in court

Varnika Kundu, who was allegedly stalked by Vikas Barala and Ashish in August, identified both accused in the court today. She recorded her statement and told the court that she was talking to a male friend on the phone and had told him that she could be kidnapped by the stalkers.

Varnika told the court that she was already talking to Anubhav Gaurang on the mobile phone when she left the Sector 8 market. As she reached near the Sector 7 KBDAV School roundabout, she witnessed in the rear view mirror that a car was following her. Once she realised that the car was swerving and was trying to stop her, she told Gaurang that she might get abducted and he should act accordingly.

Varnika told Gaurang about the registration number of the car chasing her, its make and colour and from where it was chasing her car. She was speaking via the AUX cable and then called the police near the grain market roundabout. The policeman who answered the call at 100 told her to stop the car but she refused saying that it was not possible.

Barala’s defence counsel Rabindra Pandit has sought the call details of Varnika Kundu from the day of the incident. He said it needed to be confirmed if Varnika was actually talking to the friend she mentioned about. The next date of hearing is scheduled for December 6. An order on the revision petition of Vikas Barala over the charges framed against him has been scheduled for December 5.

Vikas, son of Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala, and his friend Ashish had allegedly followed Varnika, daughter of an IAS officer, in a Tata Safari car and tried to abduct her post-midnight. The girl called the Chandigarh Police and the boys were nabbed. The accused have been denied bail four times by the court.
