Chandigarh, August 30

The UT Health Department has sent 7,010 warning and 52 show-cause notices in the residential and commercial areas where water was found stagnating or overhead tanks were kept open keeping in view the risk of spreading vector borne diseases. Besides, 19 challans were also issued for violations.

One fresh case each of dengue and malaria was reported here on Thursday. The total dengue count in city has touched 34 while 30 malaria cases have also been reported as per official figures. Two chikungunya cases have also been detected. Two to three fresh cases of vector-borne diseases are being reported every day in the Union Territory (UT).

Officials of the Health Department claimed that they were regularly holding fogging drives in Chandigarh. They also asked people to be more aware and vigilant in order to stay safe. Mere fogging was no solution, they added.

“Residents should not allow water stagnation in their surroundings,” they said.
