Woman gets life term for boyfriend’s murder

Additional District and Sessions Judge Surinderpal Kaur here today sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for killing her boyfriend.

The convict has been identified as Bhinder Kaur, a resident of Dulle Khadrian village near Mullanpur Garibdas in Mohali district. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict. In case Bhinder fails to pay the fine, she will have to undergo further imprisonment of six months. Two other accused in case, however, were acquitted.

The body of Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Rano Maksudara village near Payal in Ludhiana district, was recovered on January 9, 2016, from a hotel room here. He checked in the hotel on January 8 along with a woman. The next day the woman had left the hotel informing the staff that she had to go to appear in the court regarding some case and she would return soon, it was learnt.

On the statement of Jagpal Singh, uncle of Gurpreet Singh, the police had booked Bhinder Kaur under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC.

Jagpal had told the police that Gurpreet was already married and Bhinder was pressuring him to marry her.

After Bhinder’s arrest, the names of two other persons, indentified as Randhir Kumar and Gurjant Singh, were included in the case after registering a case under Sections 302, 201, 34 and 120-B of the IPC.
