The vote share of Congress in the LS elections suggests that the party will regain its lost position in the Delhi Assembly elections to be held in 2020, said secretary of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) Vijay Mohan.

He said out of seven LS constituencies, the Congress candidates gained second position pushing the ruling party candidates on third number. The AAP is on second number only in South Delhi and North West Delhi.

He said each parliamentary constituency consisted of 10 assembly seats. The Congress is on second number in five parliamentary seats - New Delhi, East Delhi, North East Delhi, West Delhi and Chandni Chowk. It means that in 50 assembly seats the Congress was in second position. There are only 70 assembly seats in Delhi.

He said eight months are left in assembly elections and if the party high command continues Sheila Dikshit as president, the party would improve its position further and in election the party might stand in opposition pushing the AAP out of power. The BJP may be ruling party in Delhi, he said.

He said it was Dikshit's decision to not contest the LS elections in coalition with the AAP keeping in view the assembly election, though senior AICC leader PC Chako, who was in-charge of Delhi, was adamant for alliance.

The BJP has swept all the seven seats in Delhi.
