The Delhi government’s expenditure and finance committee on Wednesday sanctioned a slew of proposals, including construction of two bridges on the Najafgarh drain with an estimated cost of Rs 40.52 crore and redevelopment of city’s five road stretches in a year, besides the nod to installation of high-end CCTV cameras in the three prison complexes in the capital.

The committee, in a meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Manish Sisodia, cleared building of two four-lane bridges on the Najafgarh drain in place of the existing single-lane bridges causing inconvenience to commuters due to traffic jam.

With the bridge at Badusarai on the drain people will have hassle-free travel from Badu Sarai, Shikarpur, Gummanhera, Daurala, Dhansa, Jhuljhuli and other areas of Najafgarh and an easy access to Radhopur, Nanakheri and other villages of Haryana and Gurugram lying on the other side.

Similarly, the other bridge, proposed by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, to come up at Dhool Siras Village, will make travel easy between areas in Najafgarh, Bahadurgarh, Nirmal Dham and adjacent areas with that of Indira Gandhi International Airport and NH-8.

The five projects approved for beautification of road stretches in the capital would entail dismantling of existing footpath, construction of concretised drain, cycle track, ramp and parking in line with Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning & Engineering) Centre (UTTIPEC) guidelines.

Besides, other aspects of design and requirements of lighting, horticulture and irrigation facilities will also be taken care.

The road stretches which will be revamped happen to be: Shivdaspuri Marg and Patel Marg, Wazirpur Depot crossing to the Rithala Metro Station, Mayapuri to Moti Bagh junction, Vikas Marg to Chungi Karkari Crossing and Narwana Road Mother Dairy to Puch Mahal Newas.

Speaking to reporters, Public Works Department Minister Satyendar Jain said the new streetscaping projects are aimed at making the roads in Delhi of “international standards”.

“The footpaths of the existing roads in Delhi are not continuous and are uneven. We want to ensure safe pathways to pedestrians, besides ensuring last mile connectivity. Greenery would be increased.... The lane width is not same, at places it is 6 m and then it is 9 m at other places. Seven projects have been approved till now and all will be completed in one year,” Jain said.

The approved another proposal of installing CCTV cameras a move aimed at achieving maximum coverage in the internal areas of prison complexes.

Sisodia said another project for installation of more than 5,500 CCTV cameras in three jails at Tihar, Rohini and Manodli was cleared today. The cameras will have high-end security facilities, like facial recognition etc., for achieving maximum coverage in the internal areas of prison complex, said the minister.

The project will provide proper data management system, Jain added.
