New Delhi, May 22

A pleasant weather prevailed in the city as scattered rains in several areas led to a significant drop in mercury with the maximum settling at 29.4 degrees Celsius, the lowest in May in the last seven years.

The Safdarjung observatory, recording of which is considered the official figure for the city, recorded a maximum temperature which was eleven notches below the season's average, making it the coolest May day since 2011, a Met department official said.

The minimum temperature settled at 21.8 degrees, five degrees below the normal.

The Safdarjung observatory recorded 17.8 mm rainfall while areas under Palam, Lodhi Road, Ridge and Ayanagar received 2 mm, 18.5 mm, 13.8 mm and 8 mm rain respectively, the official said.

The humidity level oscillated between 85 and 56 per cent.

The Met office has forecast overcast conditions along with the possibility of rains and thunderstorm in some parts of the city for tomorrow.

"Tomorrow, the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 34 and 21 degrees Celsius, respectively," the weatherman said.

Yesterday, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 39.6 and 27.1 degrees Celsius respectively. — PTI
