Solan, May 13

An 18-hour power cut hit Dharampur, Dagshai, Kasauli and surrounding areas yesterday around 3 pm due to a snag in the 33-kv substation.

Officials of the HP State Electricity Board Limited said the snag occurred after a tree fell on the power line thereby damaging it severally.

Since it was a fully grown tree, it had to be chopped to remove it and this delayed the repair work which continued throughout the night.

Residents were forced to bear the brunt of darkness and power supply could be restored only at 9am today.

Officials said indiscriminate tapping of pine trees for resin was rendering them weak and such instances were increasingly coming to fore where they damaged power lines.
