3 test positive for swine flu at Tanda

KANGRA: Three suspected swine flu patients, including a 23-year-old girl, today tested positive at the Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College at Tanda.

Three suspected swine flu patients, including a 23-year-old girl, today tested positive at the Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College at Tanda. They were admitted to the isolation ward of the hospital.

Dr Dinesh Sood, Medical Superintendent DRPGMC Tanda, said four samples of suspected swine flu patients were sent for testing to the Microbiology Department of Tanda medical college and three of them tested positive.

He said those who tested positive included a 48-year-old woman from Ronkkar Nagrota Bagwan, 23-year-old girl from Baijnath and 67-year-old man from Dharamsala.

He said so far 45 patients have reported to Tanda hospital, out of whom 17 tested positive and five died of swine flu. He said out of 17 positive cases, 14 were from Kangra district, two were medical students and one was from Hamirpur. He said those who died of swine flu were from Thanpuri, Dehra, Draman, Bortkalow and Jogipur village near Kangra.

School-going children have started using masks to avoid H1N1 virus infection.

A medical expert said: “The H1N1 infection is spreading owing to cold weather condition, however, when the weather improves the number of H1N1 patients will get automatically reduce.”
