The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment organised a district-level function at Prem Ashram here today to mark World Disability Day.

Additional District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar Maria was the chief guest at the programme. Speaking on the occasion, the ADM said differently abled persons would be given 3 per cent quota in the Chintpurni Temple Trust. A cultural programme was also implemented on the occasion. Four persons — Gurdev Singh from Gagret, Rajinder Kumar from Amb, Kuldip Chand from Badehar village and Nannhe Kumar, a migrant worker from UP — were honoured for earning their livelihood despite being disabled. Aseem Sood, district social justice and empowerment officer, highlighted the government’s welfare schemes for special persons.

Sports festival

Chamba: A district-level sports festival was organised for children with special needs on World Disability Day today. Deputy Commissioner Sudesh Mokhta said special camps would be organised to give certificates to the disabled. Suman Minhas, principal, District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Ravi Verma, District Public Relations Officer, and Neena Sehgal, secretary, district red cross society, were among those present on the occasion.
