After plea, court allows children to play in parks

PANCHKULA: A court here has allowed interim relief to four children who demanded that they be allowed to play in the neighbourhood parks in Sector 7.

Panchkula, January 24

A court here has allowed interim relief to four children who demanded that they be allowed to play in the neighbourhood parks in Sector 7.

Children in the age group of 11 to 13 years moved court against the park development committees, Municipal Corporation, Deputy Commissioner’s office and the HUDA on August 23 last year.

Vansh, Ansh, Adarsh and Devanshu filed the plaint through their fathers.

The court, in its orders given on January 20, said, "Considering the contentions of the complainants along with the documents placed on record, the court deems it appropriate to grant interim relief to them. However, it is made clear that on filing of the written statement, the stay application will be considered on merit."

The interim relief has been given till February 18 until the defendants filed the written statements.

RTI information received from the civic body by Vansh’s father Arun Maheshwari stated that there were 22 parks in Sector 7 and they were not meant for playing. Following the RTI information, the children moved the court.

The complaint by the children stated that there was no specific place or playground allocated by the MC or HUDA. In the RTI, the MC also mentioned that they had no policy for outdoor activites, recreation and welfare of children, said Maheshwari. — TNS
