Jammu, June 30

Accusing party leadership of betraying people of the Jammu region for power, BJP workers from Jammu city today joined the Congress and expressed faith in the policies and programmes of the party.

Although none of the known faces of the BJP joined the Congress today, decision of the workers, especially from Jammu city, to desert the party within four months after formation of the PDP-BJP government is an indication that there is disenchantment among grassroots level workers.

A meeting of the District Congress Committee (Urban) was held here today under the presidentship of Anil Chopra to take stock of the problems of the people of the Jammu city.

Raman Bhalla, vice-president, PCC, was the chief guest of the meeting.

On the occasion, several workers from the BJP joined the Congress, showing full faith and confidence in the programmes and policies of the Congress.

Speaking on the occasion, BJP workers said political party like the BJP had “cheated the common masses by making hollow slogans during the elections and have now failed” to protect the interests of the people of the Jammu region.

While addressing the meeting, Bhalla said, “The Congress was the only party which can fight communal and divisive forces in the state who are out to mislead the people by spreading false propaganda and disinformation.”

He said under the leadership of Ghulam Ahmed Mir, the Congress had been galvanised in all three regions of the state. Prominent BJP Workers who joined Congress included Gulshan Rattan, Jagdish Pahalwan Sanjeev Luthra, Rajeev Luthra, Chander Kumar, Babu Ram, Kapil Kashyap, Balbir Kumar, Pradeep Kumar, Dya Krishan, Darvinder Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Deepak Kumar, Rajan Kumar, Rahul Kumar, Rafiz Malik, Dwarka Nath, Jagdish Chnder, Balbir Kumar and others.
