Dehradun, October 27

Members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) burnt an effigy of the state government and the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) at Lansdowne Chowk here today against the government decision to allow construction of buildings with height up to 30 metre.

The protesters alleged that scientists had warned that Dehradun was in the active seismic zone and an earthquake could strike any time. Despite the warning, the state government had decided to allow construction of higher buildings from 21 metre to 30 metre. This showed that the government and the MDDA instead of taking protective measures were trying to provide benefits to the land mafia by ignoring the safety of people.

City president of the BJYM Vipin Rana said, “The decision shows the careless attitude of the state government towards the safety of masses”. He threatened that if the decision of increasing the height of buildings was not taken back, they would intensify their protests.
