Panipat, May 13
The security of the Panipat railway station has been beefed up following a blast in a bogie of a passenger train here last evening. A similar blast took place at the same railway station on January 15 this year.
According to information, the incident occurred in an EMU train in the railway yard. The train had reached Panipat railway station at 7.40 pm from Delhi and the blast took place at 8.05 pm in a bogie behind the railway engine when the driver was shunting the train. The bogie caught fire after the blast.
Personnel of the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) rushed to the spot and doused the flames with the help of employees.
DC Chander Shekhar Khare and SP Rahul Sharma also reached the spot. Sources said the intensity of the yesterday’s blast was three times greater than the January blast.
Kuldeep Singh, SP, GRP, said: “A case has been registered against unknown persons and SIT under the supervision of DSP Jagdeep Duhan has been constituted to inquire into the incident.”
The incident was similar to the one that took place on January 15, he said, adding that a battery and a circuit used in the blast were also recovered from the spot. “Chemical examination will reveal the type of explosives used in the blast. The matter is being investigated from different angles. No clue was found in the January blast too,” he said. He said that both the blasts had several similarities and occurred at the same railway station.
