Faridkot, July 24

A 15-year-old boy, Lovepreet Singh, who was hit by a private bus on the Kotkapura-Faridkot road yesterday, succumbed to his injuries here today.

The bus is reportedly owned by SAD’s Gidderbaha constituency in charge and Muktsar District Planning Committee chairman Hardeep Singh, alias Dimpy Dhillon.

Residents of Kotkapura had blocked the road and damaged two buses after the incident yesterday. However, no such protest was witnessed after the boy’s death. Lovepreet belonged to a poor family of Sandhwan village.

Sources said immediately after the boy’s death, a Chief Parliamentary Secretary and a DSP-rank police officer prevailed upon the aggrieved family to compromise with the owner of New Deep Transport Company. After the postmortem of the body, the boy was cremated in the village.

Dhillon, who is being projected as SAD candidate from the Gidderbaha Assembly seat, has already been facing public flak in this area for his buses involved in over 10 road accidents in the recent time. Therefore, Akali leaders and the administration in the area acted promptly in striking a deal with the aggrieved family today. Dhillon was not available for comment.

The police said the unidentified bus driver was absconding. A case under Section 304-A of the IPC has been registered and investigations are on.
