CM sanctions Rs13.5 cr for Hussainiwala

CHANDIGARH: Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today approved Rs 13.5 crore for development projects at Hussainiwala village in Ferozepur district to showcase rich legacy of martyrs Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev and other unsung heroes of national freedom struggle.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today approved Rs 13.5 crore for development projects at Hussainiwala village in Ferozepur district to showcase rich legacy of martyrs Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev and other unsung heroes of national freedom struggle.

The district administration had sent a proposal in this regard, a government spokesperson said.

Badal gave his nod to the proposal by immediately releasing a sum of Rs2 crore for light and sound programme at Hussainiwala and Rs1 crore to the agency entrusted with the task of making documentary and drama on the life and times of these martyrs, the spokesperson said.

On March 23, a delegation comprising BJP workers, prominent residents of Ferozepur led by state unit president of BJP Kamal Sharma had met Badal, during his visit to Hussainiwala, and raised these issues.

Of the Rs13.5 crore, Rs5.5 crore has been earmarked for the light and sound programme plus renovation of the historic martyrs’ memorial, the spokesperson said.

A sum of Rs2 crore for renovation of auditorium, Rs1 crore for the construction of a 4.22 km road from ‘Samadhis’ to Gatti Rajoke village and Rs5 crore for the construction of bridge over the Sutlej near Hajara Singh Wala village has been sanctioned, he said.

The famous memorial at Hussainiwala marks the location where Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev were cremated on March 23, 1931, on the banks of the Sutlej.
