Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) chief Ashok Tanwar said the Congress had nothing to do with the agitation campaign announced by former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda against the BJP government in May.

Tanwar stated this today and termed Hooda’s campaign as his personal programme stating that the Congress had already been carrying out a campaign against the state government for its ‘irresponsible’ and ‘indifferent’ attitude towards resolving the farmers’ issue.

“We have already organised a massive protest in Rewari and Chandigarh against the BJP government after its failure to fulfil the aspirations of farmers and other sections of society,” Tanwar said.

He said, “It will be Hooda’s personal programme if he launches any sort of campaign from May as the party’s programmes are decided after consultation with the party office-bearers and workers.”

On being asked about factionalism in the state Congress, Tanwar claimed the party leaders were united over the farmers’ issue and all had proved this too by participating in the ‘assembly gherao’ organised by Congress in Chandigarh recently.

Hooda can organise campaign on his own: Bhukkal

Former Education Minister and Jhajjar MLA Geeta Bhukkal said Bhupinder Singh Hooda was a senior Congress leader and had served as Chief Minister, hence he could organise any progarmme on his own.

Talking to mediapersons today, she said the Congress was discharging its duty of Opposition effectively by highlighting public problems through protest demonstrations and submitting memorandums. Bhukkal said the BJP should work for public welfare instead of making hollow assurances.
