Dehradun, April 19

Congress leaders in Uttarakhand are geared up for huge participation from the state in the proposed rally by Congress president Rahul Gandhi slated at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi.

The Delhi rally, which is aimed at highlighting the rise in atrocities on Dalits and minorities in the country, will have participation of over 10,000 workers from Uttarakhand.

Acting on the advice of the party high command, senior Congress leaders in the state have held a series of meetings to mobilise party workers towards ensuring high attendance of Congress workers from the state in the rally.

The party high command had initially set a target of participation of 3,000 Congress workers from Uttarakhand but the state Congress leadership has surpassed the target and now hopes for the presence of 10,000 party workers in the rally.

This includes 5,000 Congress workers from each of Garhwal and Kumaon divisions.

Uttarakhand Congress president Pritam Singh asserted that Congress workers in the state are all eager to attend Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s rally that is proposed against the environment of distrust and intolerance created by BJP government in the country.

He said atrocities, particularly on women, minorities and Dalits, have increased manifold ever since the BJP government came to power at the Centre. He said such an atmosphere had been created in the country at the behest of the BJP. He asserted that the Delhi rally would be a resounding success.

Referring to the state, Pritam Singh said an insensitive government was ruling in Uttarakhand. He said the recent hailstorm in the state had damaged the standing wheat and other crops in big numbers.

He accused the state BJP government of doing little to address the farmers concerns. He also demanded adequate compensation for the affected farmers.
