Srinagar, July 30

Curfew continued to be enforced in old Srinagar city and the south Kashmir towns of Anantnag and Kulgam, while restrictions are in place elsewhere in the Valley to maintain law and order.

Restrictions were imposed in Pampore town in Pulwama district, 15 km from here, on Saturday morning following incidents of stone-pelting. Sources said police and CRPF men chased away the protesting youth and a strict vigil was being maintained.

Tension prevailed across the Valley on day 22 of the ongoing unrest, a day after the crucial Friday when over 100 protesters got injured in more than 70 instances of stone-pelting and clashes between the protesters and police.

Normal life in the Valley has been adversely affected due to the curfew and restrictions and the separatist-sponsored strikes for the past three weeks, following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani. Government offices have been recording thin attendance, while educational institutes, shops and business establishments are closed and traffic is off the roads due to the restrictions and shutdowns called by separatists.

Man killed in accident

A motorcyclist, Abdul Ahad Ganai, died and his 12-year-old son Kamran was seriously injured in an accident owing to an obstruction on the road near Hardapanzu in Budgam district on Friday evening. The police said the accident took place as the motorcycle rammed into a road obstruction created by miscreants to block traffic in protest against the civilian killings.

However, locals alleged that the accident took place due to the concertina wire put up by the police.
