Decision in a year: Bhatt

Uttarakhand BJP president Ajay Bhatt on Wednesday said that the government would decide on the issue of making Gairsain the summer capital in a year.

Bhatt, while speaking with mediapersons here today, said, “We have made a commitment on Gairsain even in our vision document released during the Assembly elections. We hope to achieve some sort of headway on Gairsain in a year,” he said.

On the issue of holding the budget session in Gairsain, Bhatt said the issue was not important. “Our focus is on giving a transparent and corruption free government, which can be achieved even while functioning from the district headquarters. The place is not important. It is the ability to bring a change in governance and imposing disciplined work culture,” he added.

On the issue of creation of new districts, Bhatt said the previous BJP government under Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had issued a government order in this regard. “ We need to revive that government order that the Congress government had cancelled,” he added.

Cabinet minister Satpal Maharaj, who performed a havan at his office in the Vidhan Sabha, reiterated the government commitment on making Gairsain the summer capital of Uttarakhand. “We have to build the necessary infrastructure,” he said.

He emphaised the need to promote Uttarakhand as a winter destination for foreign tourists.
