Panchkula, May 16

A Special CBI court today deferred three cases against the Dera Sacha Sauda chief to May 30. The cases, including sexual exploitation of a ‘sadhvi’ and murders of Ram Chander Chhatarpati, a journalist, and Ranjit, a manager of the dera, were taken up in court today.

Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim appeared before the court through video conferencing. In the sadhvi sexual exploitation case, the CBI today filed its reply, turning down the request for verification of her handwriting specimens from a private forensic agency made by the defence counsel.

In the Ranjit murder case, three witnesses — Dr Amarnath, Sunil (both from Fazilka), and Kishan Chauhan from Sirsa — recorded their statements today. — TNS
