Education gives minorities courage to fight for their rights, says Governor

DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand Governor Dr Aziz Qureshi today said that history was witness to the fact that those communities who do not show courage to fight for their rights are destroyed.

Dehradun, December 18

Uttarakhand Governor Dr Aziz Qureshi today said that history was witness to the fact that those communities who do not show courage to fight for their rights are destroyed.

He was addressing a conference organised here by Uttarakhand Minority Commission on the topic “Minorities and the mainstream –A Holistic View,” as part of World Minority Rights Day today.

He said education gives the minorities the courage to fight for their rights. He reminded that Indian Constitution has a strong provision for the protection of the rights and welfare of the minorities.

Expressing pride at the fact that minority rights were protected in the country ,Governor Qureshi said that the Uttarakhand government was running several ambitious schemes for the welfare of minorities. He said the minorities commission should promote awareness so that problems of unemployment among the minorities could be resolved. He appreciated the efforts being made by the minorities commission in Uttarakhand .

Chairman of the state minority commission N Bindra, St.Stephen’s College principal Prof. Valson Thampu, young farmer Sardar Jang Bahadur Sangha, hotelier Syeed Sherwani, businessman J.C.Jain and Dr.Poonam Sinha (who runs skill development programmes for welfare of minorities) were prominent speakers on the occasion.
