FIR against school for running ‘illegal’ classes

JAMMU: The state Education Department has lodged an FIR against St George Convent School, Lidhwal, in the Batote area of Ramban district for “illegally” running upper primary classes without a valid permission from the department.

The state Education Department has lodged an FIR against St George Convent School, Lidhwal, in the Batote area of Ramban district for “illegally” running upper primary classes without a valid permission from the department.

According to an official order issued by Jammu Director, School Education, (DSE) Smita Sethi, Chief Education Officer (CEO) Mohammad Sharief was directed to register the FIR against the principal of St George Convent School and shift the students above Class V to any nearby government school and ensure that the session of students does not suffer for no fault of theirs.

In her order, the director said the claim of the school was considered for according permission which was not found eligible due to the lack of requisite formalities till date.

When contacted, the Ramban Chief Education Officer said the school was running upper primary classes (Class VI to Class VIII) without the permission of the department. “The school had applied for permission to run upper primary classes but was not granted it. The school management was running the upper primary classes illegally,” he added.

The officer said the school management had now approached the court and the matter was sub judice.
