GADVASU, Oz varsity ink pact

LUDHIANA: The Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with The University of Sydney, Australia, for collaborative research and facilitating exchange of faculty and students.

The Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with The University of Sydney, Australia, for collaborative research and facilitating exchange of faculty and students.

Dr AS Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU, signed the MoU while The University of Sydney was represented by Dr Navneet Dhand, sub-dean, research development in the faculty of veterinary science, The University of Sydney.

Dr Nanda congratulated scientists from both institutions and hoped that the MoU would be beneficial for faculty and students of both varsities and would result in productive research in veterinary and animal sciences.

Dr Nanda asked the faculty members to explore possibilities of collaborative projects with The University of Sydney in their respective areas of expertise, under various national and international funding programmes.

Dr Dhand discussed research priorities of the Sydney university and its keen desire to work with scientists from India. He described it as a beginning of a long-term relationship between the two premier institutions for developing new tools and techniques for improving animal and public health.

Dr Dhand said it was a first-of-its-kind MoU of the Australian university with any veterinary university in the Asia and the move would encourage student and faculty exchange, besides promoting research collaborations.

The University of Sydney has also funded a ‘One health’ project in collaboration with the School of Public Health and Zoonoses to start research collaborations. Some other projects were also in the pipeline.

Both universities were also working on the collaborative ‘One health’ project to improve health of livestock and people in contact with the livestock.
