The Uttarakhand Cabinet on Wednesday decided to take over Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath Mahavidyalaya in Bithyani (Yamkeshwar), run by family members of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The private college was set up by Yogi Adityanath in 2005. After becoming the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi’s brother and father were running the college. Last year, the government had started giving aid to the college. On the request of the family members, the government had decided to confer on the institute the status of a government college.

“With this, nine acres, five houses and the school building will now belong to the government. The school will continue to carry the original name with the new addition of government college,” said Madan Kaushik, while briefing mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting.

In another decision, the Cabinet also approved amendments to the rules for recruiting women jail guards. These include raising the minimum qualification from Class 10 to Class 12 and raising the minimum age limit from 18 years to 21 years.

Changes had also been introduced in the examination pattern. “Now, the written exams comprising general studies will carry 100 marks and physical test too will carry 100 marks,” said he.
